What to Expect at Your Child’s First Dental Check-Up

April 12, 2017

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children have their first visit to the dentist within six months of the appearance of a tooth or by the age of one year. Here are some things you can expect at your child’s first dental check-up:

  1. Meet and Greet – Formally introducing your child to the dentist is a great way to make sure your child feels comfortable.
  2. Tooth Talk – The dentist will review your child’s dental history, explain the check-up procedure and answer any questions you or your child has.
  3. Getting Started Good Habits – Good habits start early. The dentist will show your child the proper way to brush and floss.
  4. Pick a Prize – Your child will get to choose a prize every visit, regardless of how the check-up went.
